The proliferation of Black contemporary R&P (Rhythm & Praise) in America's mainstream music arena takes a giant step forward in 2000. At its center is the remarkable vocalist/composer/producer Michael Speaks. Today he is an established artist, but Speaks' journey actually began when he literally sang for his supper in the New York City subway system, where a record executive discovered him in 1995. One year later, his critically acclaimed debut album No Equal made him an r&b/pop star, exposing his soulful seven-octave voice to the world.

Now, drawing on his Pentecostal son-of-a-preacher-man roots, Michael Speaks returns to the recording scene with Praise At Your Own Risk, his brilliant Epic label debut album. Predominately self-composed and produced, and hitting higher, holier ground, Praise At Your Own Risk reaches out to and beyond the traditional contemporary R&P (Rhythm & Praise) audience.
