Artists - MxPx
The teenage trio performed at churches, coffeehouses, community centers and parties, playing their own brand of power - pop/punk with sometimes explicit, sometimes-veiled Christian lyrics. They came to the attention of the Seattle - based (then California - based) indie label Tooth & Nail, who signed them and released their first album, Pokinatcha, in 1994. Soon after their album debut, Andy departed and was replaced by Tom Wisniewski. With the change of personnel came a change of name as well - Magnified Plaid referred to a loud plaid jacket favored by the former guitarist, so with Andy's departure, Magnified Plaid became MxPx. The band produced several more albums and singles for Tooth & Nail, while steadily building their fan base, before signing with A&M in 1998.
